Firearm Safety Kits Distributed

The Moriarty fire and police departments are distributing free firearm safety kits to local residents through a partnership with project ChildSafe, a nationwide firearm safety education program.
The safety kits, which include a gun lock, will be distributed until the supply of 1,000 kits is gone.
Area residents can pick up the kits at the Moriarty police or fire stations.
"We encourage residents to pick up a Project ChildSafe safety kit so they can securely store their firearm," said Moriarty Fire Chief Karl Ehl. "Each kit contains a safety curriculum and a cable-style gun lock. The lock fits on most types of handguns, rifles and shotguns. The goal is to prevent a child or any other unauthorized person from accessing a firearm in your home.
Project ChildSafe will distribute millions of the kits throughout the country over the next year. The program is funded by a U.S. Department of Justice grant with additional funding from the firearms industry.
