Welcome to the City of Moriarty Fire Department online site. The City is physically located in the central part of enchanting New Mexico 35 miles east of Albuquerque.  Moriarty, referred to as the Crossroads of Opportunity, is a little city at the juncture of Highway 41 and Interstate 40 with historic Route 66 as the “main street”.

Currently the incorporated city limits is approximately 10 square miles with a resident population of about 2000 citizens. However, the influx of people from the interstate and neighboring communities increases our population to over fifteen thousand a day. With the probability of the Albuquerque Downs racetrack and casino relocating to Moriarty, comes the potential of a lot of growth and expansion in the area.

While the city is our primary response area, we also provide mutual aid to the entire county of Torrance and the adjoining counties.  The State Forestry Division has also called on us for assistance on wild land fires both within the state and out of state.  In addition to fire suppression and emergency medical services, we also offer fire prevention and education, life safety and fire code inspections, and community outreach programs such as Project Child Safe, Toys for Joy, and CPR.

In 2006, the Moriarty Fire Department responded to over 1200 calls for service, about 85% of which were emergency medical calls.  We have three full time paid staff and 22 volunteers. Medically speaking, we have 2 paramedics, 6 EMT - Intermediates, 2 EMT - Basics, and 1 First Responder.  Most of our members are trained in both structural and wild land firefighting along with Hazmat Awareness and extrication.

We offer our volunteers insurance while on duty through VFIS, participation in housing loan program, annual seasonal compensation, State and Federal Certified training, a uniform package, and excellent field experience at all levels.  We also outfit all of our members with structural and wild land gear.

Thank you for visiting our web site. Come back again as we are constantly updating the site.
